PyAstra - Python library for Traditional Astrology

February 26, 2026

In 2014 I started the implementation of Flatlib (https://github.com/flatangle/flatlib/). My purpose was to build a traditional astrology library to build a graphical application (desktop, web, etc.) on top of it. Unfortunately, back then, there wasn't much of a profitable market for astrology applications (still there isn't) and I had to let it go, but flatlib came to be one of the most used python libraries for traditional astrology.

Recently I started a new project (PyAstra - https://github.com/joaoventura/pyastra/) which is the successor of flatlib. It reuses most of the previous code, but fixes a lot of problems. It now supports sidereal zodiac and includes a module to export chart data to text to be used in my research with Large Language Models (LLMs).

I've included an example of PyAstra that can be executed in Google Colab here.
